  • ISPSC joins PACERS Midyear Conference, advances counseling services

The Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College (ISPSC) joined counselors and mental health practitioners at the Philippine Association for Counselor Education, Research and Supervision, Inc. (PACERS) Midyear Conference 2026 to strengthen counseling competencies and gain insights to enhance student support services at San Luis Del Mar Resort, Bauang, La Union, September 10–11, 2026.

Representing ISPSC were Dr. Princess D. Racca, Chief of Guidance and Counseling Services and Guidance Counselor of Sta. Maria Campus; Dr. Honelyn G. Pacquing, Registered Guidance Counselor of the Main Campus; Dr. Cathrine L. Tomas, Designated Guidance Counselor of Cervantes Campus; Mr. Marc Chester Dela Rosa, Registered Guidance Counselor of Candon Campus; and Mrs. Justine Marie Santos, Registered Guidance Counselor of Santiago Campus. They took part in discussions and collaborative sessions centered on the conference theme, “From Stigma to Strength for Filipino Counsellors.”

The conference brought together counselors, counselor educators, researchers, and mental health practitioners from across the country to exchange knowledge and approaches in counseling and mental health practice.

The gathering highlighted the need to build safe and supportive environments that address mental health stigma and foster strength among counselors and clients. Its professional development sessions also provided opportunities to explore current practices that can be applied in educational institutions and communities.

For ISPSC, the engagement provided an avenue to deepen the competencies of its counseling personnel, learn from emerging practices, and build professional linkages that can contribute to the continuing development of student support services across its campuses. The insights gained can help inform the College’s efforts to create an institutional environment that recognizes mental health and well-being as integral to students’ academic and personal development.

The participation formed part of ISPSC’s continuing commitment to strengthening the capacity of its personnel and translating professional learning into meaningful support for the holistic development and well-being of its students. (PAJ)
