  • ISPSC backs national agenda for future-ready polytechnic education

Reinforcing its commitment to advancing responsive, industry-aligned, and globally competitive polytechnic education, the Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College (ISPSC) took part in the National Summit on Polytechnic Education in the Philippines held on October 14-16, 2026, at the Heritage Hotel in Pasay City.

Hosted by the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), the summit brought together higher education leaders, policymakers, educators, and industry representatives to establish a shared direction for transforming polytechnic education in the country with the theme, “Igniting the Future: Polytechnic Education as the Catalyst for Philippine Innovation and Global Competitiveness,”.

Representing ISPSC were Dr. Jonathan L. Dela Cruz, Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Dr. Jocelyn L. Absolor, Vice President for Research, Development and Extension. Dr. Dela Cruz affirmed ISPSC’s institutional commitment to the Philippine Polytechnic Education Network, which seeks to foster collaboration in research, faculty development, technology transfer, industry partnerships, and the mobility of learners and professionals. Dr. Absolor represented ISPSC President Mario P. Obrero during the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), signifying the College’s participation in the collective commitment to strengthen cooperation among polytechnic higher education institutions nationwide.

Serving as keynote speaker, CHED Chairperson Shirley C. Agrupis called for the establishment of a Philippine Polytechnic Education Network that would bring together higher education institutions, technical-vocational training providers, and industry partners under a unified national direction, strengthening the link between education, skills development, and industry demands.

The gathering also highlighted the importance of aligning educational programs with industry needs, advancing applied research and innovation, strengthening faculty competencies, and fostering collaboration among polytechnic institutions.

Also discussed during the summit was the proposed National Implementation Roadmap for 2027–2030, which will guide the network’s development, institutional commitments, and industry partnerships.

The initiatives are expected to benefit industries through improved access to specialized talent, applied research, and innovation while strengthening the contribution of polytechnic institutions to Philippine industrial development. In collaboration with the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), PUP, the Department of Education (DepEd), the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), higher education institutions, and industry partners, the initiative aims to develop graduates who are not only employable but also equipped with the technical and innovation capabilities needed in a rapidly evolving global economy.

The active engagement of ISPSC in national initiatives and institutional partnerships, advances the College’s polytechnic education system which produces competent, and future-ready graduates while supporting sustainable development and strengthening the country’s global competitiveness. (MVB)
