  • ISPSC seals partnership with Yawman Publishing House, advances scholarly publication

The Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College (ISPSC) through its Graduate School - Tagudin Campus formalized its collaboration with Yamwan Publishing House through a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing held at Villa Ellita, Sudipen, La Union, on October 10, 2026.

The signing is in conjunction with the opening of the Academic Book Writeshop and Mentoring on October 10-11, 2026. The two-day initiative gathered ISPSC faculty members, delegates from Samar State Universities, and Department of Education (DepEd) teachers to strengthen academic book writing and instructional material development.

The MOA signing underscores the importance of institutional partnerships in advancing research, academic publishing, and the production of quality, contextualized learning resources. Complementing this initiative, the two-day writeshop aims to equip educators with the knowledge and skills to conceptualize, write, and publish academic books and instructional materials responsive to the needs of graduate and basic education.

Representing ISPSC President Dr. Mario P. Obrero during the signing were Dr. Christian Gandeza, Executive Assistant to the President, and Dr. Jacqueline G. Gumallaoi, Dean of the Graduate School – Tagudin. ISPSC Tagudin personnel also witnessed the signing, reflecting the campus community’s participation in the partnership initiative.

The first day featured lectures, demonstrations, and workshops facilitated by Dr. McWinner Yawman, President and Director of Yawman Book Publishing House, and Mr. Teofilo Damoco, a language and literature educator, researcher, writer, and academic leader at Union Christian College.

Drawing from his experience in education, research, and academic publishing in the Philippines and Thailand, Dr. Yawman guided participants through the stages of academic book development, including conceptualization, structuring, manuscript preparation, and publication standards. Meanwhile, Damoco shared practical insights into module writing, creative works, academic production, and the organization of coherent and publication-ready instructional materials.

The sessions covered eight major areas: understanding academic books and developing a book concept; structuring an academic book; book conceptualization; writing the front matter; developing Chapter 1 as the foundation and context of the book; writing thematic chapters; preparing the final chapter and back matter; and understanding scholarly writing and publication standards.

On the second day, participants actively participated  in academic book-writing exercises, mentoring, and output presentations, allowing them to apply the concepts and techniques discussed during the initial sessions and advance their respective manuscripts.

Beyond building individual writing skills, the initiative seeks to increase faculty research and publication outputs, strengthen the production of contextualized instructional resources, and support the academic requirements of ISPSCl in pursuit of higher State Universities and Colleges (SUC) leveling and accreditation standards.

Through such institutional partnerships and sustained capacity-building efforts, ISPSC continues to promote a stronger culture of academic writing, research, and publication while working toward its aspiration to become the University of Ilocos Philippines. (PAJ)
