  • ISPSC team bags Best Paper Award at int'l research summit

Demonstrating excellence in research and innovation for sustainable development, Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College (ISPSC) researchers earned international recognition after receiving the Best Paper Award under Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2: Zero Hunger category during the Asia-Pacific Consortium of Researchers and Educators (APCORE) A-GRASS Summit 2026 held on May 26-29 in Tagaytay City.

The award-winning study, titled “Isolation, Identification, and Safety Profiling of Potential Lactic Acid Bacteria from Indigenous Food Plants in Ilocos Sur,” was authored by Mr. Christian Molina, together with ISPSC President Mario P. Obrero, Mr. Peter Paul Lazo, Dr. Patrick Gasmen, and Dr. Robert S. Ablog.

Exploring the potential of indigenous food plants in Ilocos Sur, the study identified beneficial lactic acid bacteria and highlighted their value in promoting food safety, food security, and sustainable agricultural practices.

The A-GRASS Summit serves as an international platform for research presentation, knowledge exchange, and academic collaboration aimed at advancing sustainable development across the Asia-Pacific region.

Positioning itself as the next provincial hub for agriculture, ISPSC, soon to be the University of Ilocos Philippines, continues to expand its agriculture-related research efforts to address local challenges and support the province's development priorities. (JGP)
