  • ISPSC holds 3rd International Lecture on Indigeneity Studies

    The Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College (ISPSC), through its Indigenous Peoples Education Research Center (IPEDRC), conducted the 3rd International Lecture on Indigeneity Studies on May 28, 2026, via Zoom, in partnership with the University of Hawai?i - Leeward Community College and the NAKEM Conferences.

    Anchored on the theme, “Exploring Ilokano NAKEM, Indigenous Feminism, and Cultural Empowerment,” the webinar gathered educators, researchers, students, and cultural advocates to engage in meaningful discussions and academic exchange centered on indigenous identity, feminist perspectives, cultural heritage, and community empowerment.

    Dr. Debra Andres Arellano, Vice Principal of the University of Hawai?i Maui College, delivered a lecture titled “A Social Biography of a Nakemista,” which highlighted the exploration of Ilokano critical race feminism, culturally rooted pedagogy, and transformative praxis. Her discussion emphasized the importance of reclaiming indigenous narratives, empowering marginalized voices, and integrating indigenous perspectives into educational practices to promote cultural awareness, social justice, and inclusive learning environments.

    Present during the webinar were Dr. Aurelio Agcaoili, NAKEM President; Dr. Jocelyn Absolor, Vice President for Research Development and Extension; Dr. Englebert Mangaldan, Director of IPEDRC; Dr. Milagros O. Liberato, Director of Research; Dr. Jonalyn Sad-ayan-Lacambra, Chief of Policy and Rights Advocacy and Ms. Rinbeth Riva, Chief of Educational Development and Linkages.

    The IPEDRC functions as ISPSC’s specialized hub for research, extension, and advocacy in Indigenous Peoples Education, advancing the preservation of indigenous knowledge, cultural traditions, and inclusive learning practices through collaborations with local and international partners.
