NEWS ISPSC holds campus-based in-house review for RDE initiatives

The Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College (ISPSC) Santa Maria Campus hosted the 2025 Campus-Based In-House Review for Research, Development, and Extension (RDE) proposals, ongoing projects, and completed papers on July 29 at the RDETC Building Function Hall.

With the theme “Balancing Innovation with Ethics: Artificial Intelligence and Research Integrity,” the event gathered faculty presenters and expert evaluators from the Santiago, Santa Maria, and Narvacan campuses, both onsite and online. The review aimed to enhance research quality, ensure ethical practices, and promote interdisciplinary collaboration.

ISPSC President Mario P. Obrero commended everyone for their participation. He emphasized the role of research and extension activities in transforming the lives of the communities, encouraging the faculty to pursue research and extension projects that are not only technically sound but also socially responsive and ethically grounded. “The true impact of research lies in its contribution to the well-being of communities and society at large,” he added.

Dr. Jeanno M. Manzano, Campus Director of Santa Maria Campus, expressed his gratitude to the college administration and the OVPRE for supporting the activity. He also emphasized that initiatives like this strengthen academic excellence and promote collaboration across disciplines.

Meanwhile, Dr. Milagros O. Liberato, Director for Research, discussed the rationale of the review. She highlighted its role in helping faculty improve their RDE proposals and outputs through expert feedback. She added that the activity supports ISPSC’s goal of promoting quality, relevant, and ethical research.

Following this, Dr. Jocelyn L. Absolor, Vice President for Research, Development, and Extension, introduced the keynote speaker. Dr. Harold Jan R. Terano, Professor VI and Director of Research and Development Services at Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges, served as the keynote speaker for the event. In his address, Dr. Terano emphasized the critical importance of maintaining ethical standards and research integrity in an era increasingly shaped by AI-powered solutions.

Dr. Terano also underscored the need for researchers to exercise discernment, responsibility, and transparency when utilizing emerging technologies, and the value of cultivating a research culture grounded in core human values. His address challenged participants to strike a balance between innovation and ethics while embracing AI as a powerful tool for responsible research and development.

The in-house review provided a platform for ISPSC faculty to present RDE outputs in various disciplines, including education, agriculture, hospitality management, information technology, and community development. It reinforces the college’s commitment to promote sustainable and community-responsive RDE initiatives aligned with its academic and development goals. (Dr. Leonard Manuel, PRPIO Coordinator)
