    NEWS  ISPSC secures 13 podium finishes in 2025 ASCU-SN festival

    Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College (ISPSC) employees once again proved their athletic prowess as they clinched multiple podium finishes during the 2025 Midyear Athletic and Socio-Cultural Festival of the Association of State Colleges and Universities - Solid North (ASCU-SN), held from July 14 to 18 at Benguet State University.

    Leading the roster of medalists were Manuel Sabiano and Perlita Tomas, who emerged as champions in the Badminton Mixed Doubles (56 years old and above) category. Tomas also delivered a stellar all-around performance, securing 1st runner-up in Badminton Women Singles A (56 y/o and above), 2nd place in the Women’s Long Jump (50-59 y/o), and 3rd place in the 3K Run - Women’s Category. Sabiano, for his part, also finished as 1st runner-up in Badminton Men Singles A (56 y/o and above).

    In other events, Ana Mae Dosono placed 1st runner-up in Table Tennis Women Singles A (40-49 y/o), while William Pedro clinched 1st runner-up in Cycling Men (50-59 y/o). Marites U. Peralta earned 2nd runner-up honors in Badminton Women Singles A (46-55 y/o), and Ivy Cacabelos brought home 2nd place in Shotput Women (50-59 y/o).

    In addition, Wendy Lyn D. Abalos ranked as 3rd runner-up in Badminton Women Singles A (35 y/o and below). Meanwhile, Vicente Raras and Lily Joy Torre landed as 3rd runner-up in Badminton Mixed Doubles (36-45 y/o).

    Angelito Valle and Melvin Dato finished 3rd runner-up in Darts Men Doubles, and the team of Bon Ranjee Catriz, Rex Villanueva, Loyd Angelo Diana, Jake Gullab, and Wayne Joaquin Barba secured 3rd place in the Laro ng Lahi - Patintero, Men’s Category.

    ISPSC President Mario P. Obrero praised the College’s delegation for their commitment and performance in the regional competition. “We are proud of their efforts and victories, which reflect the strength and discipline of the ISPSC community,” he stressed. 

    He further emphasized that their participation exemplifies the institution’s broader values. “Their performance shows that excellence at ISPSC goes beyond the classroom - our employees are role models not only in education, but also in sportsmanship and teamwork,” he added. 

    Among those who led the delegation were Dr. Ryan Victor Abaya, Director for Sports Development, and Ms. Joselita Viado, Director for Culture and the Arts.

    Bringing together faculty and staff athletes and artists from state universities and colleges in Regions I, II, III, and the Cordillera Administrative Region, this year’s festival carried the theme “SIGED ASCU-SN: Celebrating Athleticism, Culture, and Unity.” This annual event aims to strengthen regional cooperation among SUCs through sports and cultural activities while promoting health, unity, and excellence in public higher education.  (JGP)
