  • ISPSC, Agencies, and Academe Unite for IP Justice Practices

NEWS ISPSC joins forces with agencies, academe to safeguard IP justice practices

Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College (ISPSC) continues to play a vital role in advancing inclusive and culturally responsive governance as it joins the Technical Working Group (TWG) for the Pammadayew Sintatako, a recognition system that honors the Indigenous Peoples' Justice System in Ilocos Sur.

The TWG convened on July 17 to develop a training module for the upcoming Workshop on the Documentation of Indigenous Cultural Communities and Indigenous Peoples (ICCs/IPs) Practices in Dispute Resolution. The initiative seeks to address the lack of documented traditional conflict resolution proceedings, which were identified during the initial assessment in 2024.

Representing ISPSC, Ms. Cheryl Yague, Assistant Dean of the College of Teacher Education at the Main Campus, contributed to the development of the module and training guide, which aim to help local communities document their justice practices. Also present was Atty. Connie Joy Omaoeng-Manzano, Legal Assistant at ISPSC, who participated in the discussions.

The workshop, based on the module developed by the TWG, will provide ICCs/IPs with the essential tools and knowledge to document and maintain their traditional conflict resolution systems.

Apart from ISPSC, the TWG consists of representatives from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP), the Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representatives (IPMR), the University of Northern Philippines (UNP), and JeNeFa Scholastica, Inc.

In June 2025, ISPSC signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the DILG to support Indigenous justice initiatives, demonstrating the college’s commitment to fostering inclusive and community-based development. (JGP)
