NEWS ISPSC takes part in unveiling of Candon City’s Aquarium and Children’s Park

The Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College (ISPSC) continues to strengthen its community engagement and academic integration efforts as it joined the City Government of Candon in the official opening of the Candon City Aquarium and Children’s Park today, June 30, in Barangay Darapidap.

Leading the ISPSC delegation was President Mario P. Obrero, who joined City Mayor Eric D. Singson, members of the City Council, and representatives from the Schools Division of Candon City, the Philippine National Police, and the Department of Tourism Region 1 in the inauguration.

Mayor Singson recognized the contribution of ISPSC to the initiative, expressing his hopes for deeper collaboration. “I hope Dr. Obrero would consider integrating this facility into ISPSC’s academic and research programs,” he said, noting the potential of the facility to serve not only tourism and education, but also research, especially in partnership with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).

He also emphasized that initiatives like this can support ISPSC’s role in regional development through research, education, and sustainable tourism, especially as the institution moves toward becoming the University of Ilocos Philippines.

In addition, BS Tourism students from ISPSC Candon Campus are currently serving as tourist guides at the facility as part of their internship program.

The facility is part of the city government’s broader efforts to position Candon as a prime destination for both tourism and educational advancement. (RNS)
